At the turn of the century, Julian A. Wolf discovered and quickly
became involved with the alternative community. Participating and performing at their first event, they quickly found their passion for service. Julian continues to serve the queer, Leather, kink, fetish, pagan, polyamorous and music scenes in the southwest and beyond. In 2003 Julian co-founded New Mexico: the Next Generation (NM:TNG) and ran the business of the group as Chairman for seven years before stepping down before their 30th birthday. Julian served as the first Ms. Rio Grande Leather (2004) and assisted with every annual conference in various capacities. In 2005, the New Mexico Leather League (NMLL) was formed, taking its name from a show that Julian wrote, and co-produced with former Mr New Mexico Pride Tony Carson. A charter member of NMLL Julian served on the board for five consecutive terms. In 2006, Julian was honored to receive Albuquerque Pride's title of "Ms New Mexico Pride" and was noted as the first queer identified individual to hold the title. (In 2016 they were honored with a ten year anniversary crown at the Albuquerque Pride Pageant acknowledging continued work within the Pride communities.) In 2008, Julian took a position as Administrative Assistant with Equality New Mexico (EQNM), New Mexico's statewide LGBT advocacy organization and served full time until leaving in good standing. In 2010, after years of fundraising and advocacy, Julian also started working on-call for the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom (NCSF) and was elected to their first term shortly after. Julian is also an educator; offering classes and workshops regionally and internationally to clubs, colleges, conferences and spiritual organizations. They've offered the keynote and/or plenary addresses for alternative lifestyle conferences and the UNM Feminist Symposium, and have written for the Weekly Alibi, DatingAdvice, Fearless Press, and been quoted in Bustle, YourTango and Cosmopolitan. Julian's visual art has been featured in shows at the UNM LGBTQ Resource Center celebrating transgender artists, the Downtown Contemporary Gallery as part of juried shows including "Politico" and solo shows at Albuquerque Press Club, the Unseen Gallery and Corpus Arts. They manage the Albuquerque based performance art and event production troupe Audacious Productions, creating safe spaces for people to enjoy music and participate in live art and entertainment. After being recruited by local Burners, they started serving on the Sunburn Event (regional Burning Man event) Council, specializing in helping organize educational offerings and special events. Their project "Supporting the Financially Disenfranchised in a Culture of Consent" was recently awarded a grant by the Effing Foundation, and applies directly to all of their current work. |
